Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has emerged as a transfer target for Leicester City after contract talks with Wrexham stalled, with the 24-year-old now expected to leave the club when his deal expires at the end of next season.

According to AllAboutLeagueOne, Leicester have identified Okonkwo as a potential signing as the Foxes prepare for life in League One following their unexpected relegation from the Championship last season — a dramatic fall from grace for a club that won the Premier League a decade ago in one of sport’s greatest upsets.

Okonkwo arrived at Wrexham as a free agent three years ago after leaving Arsenal and has since developed into one of the more dependable goalkeepers outside the top two divisions.

He was instrumental in the club’s promotion campaign to the Championship and remained a regular starter last season before manager Phil Parkinson opted to rotate in Danny Ward in the closing stages of the campaign. That decision, combined with the breakdown in contract extension talks, has left the Nigerian’s future at the club in serious doubt with only a year remaining on his current deal.
