The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Monday served a notice to an outlet of a multinational fast food restaurant chain after a customer alleged that a chicken burger purchased from the restaurant had live worms.A food safety officer from FSSAI, Coimbatore, inspected the kitchen, storage facilities and raw materials at the restaurant at Nava India on Avinashi Road.The official checked the use-by date of raw materials stored at the outlet. Licences, health certificates of staff and other records were also verified, besides assessing the hygiene at the restaurant.It was found that all raw materials were within their use-by dates. Persons handling food at the restaurant had undergone the prescribed training, said an FSSAI official.A person named Rahul claimed that a chicken burger purchased from the restaurant had worms. In a video, the customer claimed that the restaurant offered a replacement when the matter was brought to the attention of the staff. Two videos, allegedly shot by the customer, showed worms wriggling on a tray in which the burger was served.FSSAI Designated Officer T. Anuradha said a notice was issued to the outlet on Monday, seeking an explanation within 24 hours on the alleged incident. “We have also instructed the outlet management to provide surveillance camera visuals of the incident,” she said.
