ActionSA president Herman Mashaba has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa's latest immigration plan, saying it offers little new action to address what he describes as South Africa's worsening illegal immigration crisis.
Mashaba's criticism comes after Ramaphosa announced a series of measures aimed at addressing growing public frustration over illegal immigration, including intensified deportations, increased workplace inspections, dedicated immigration courts, tighter border security, the phasing out of green ID books, and plans to curb the abuse of Traffic Registration Numbers (TRNs).
However, Mashaba argued that the president's address offered little that was new and failed to confront what he described as a deepening immigration crisis.
"ActionSA is disappointed by President Ramaphosa's weak and reactionary address, which does nothing to address the immigration crisis created by the ANC and perpetuated by the failing GNU government," said Mashaba.
Mashaba said South Africans were expecting decisive action, including mass deportations and significant investment in law enforcement capacity, but instead received what he called a repackaging of long-standing government positions.
