Iran upheld a one-year prison sentence against Oscar-nominated director Jafar Panahi for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”

Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court rejected an appeal, imposing a two-year travel ban and prohibiting organisational memberships.

Lawyer Mostafa Nili says prosecutors cited an unauthorised film, support for political prisoners, protests, and the Women, Life, Freedom movement.

The ruling can be appealed to Tehran’s Provincial Court of Appeal within 20 days, extending a decades-long pattern of restrictions on the filmmaker.
