The Government of Ghana has received 342 citizens evacuated from South Africa following months of xenophobic attacks and hostility targeting foreign nationals, particularly Africans, in parts of the country.

The returnees arrived in Ghana on June 7, 2026, aboard the third evacuation flight organised by the Ghanaian government as concerns continue to mount over the safety of African migrants living in South Africa.

Announcing the arrival of the evacuees in a post shared on X handle with accompanied pictures, Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said senior government officials were on hand to receive them and unveil a package of support measures aimed at helping them reintegrate into society.

Among those who welcomed the returnees were Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo; Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson; officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO); and representatives of the National Youth Authority (NYA).
