The war in Ukraine has shown that Moldova urgently needs high-tech interceptor drones, and that new legislation is needed to facilitate their production, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said in a podcast with a local blogger, Reuters reports.

"Those who want our country to be completely defenceless must understand that there is a risk that drones will fall on us and we won't be able to do anything about it," Sandu said.

Sandu said she has instructed the government to prepare legislative changes to develop the country's defence industry.

"I have asked the government, particularly in the context ‌of recent events, to begin introducing or preparing legislative amendments," the president noted.
