Chinese tech giant Tencent is working with the country’s largest smartphone makers to allow their digital assistants access to some features in its super-app WeChat, in a significant shift for the company, according to local media reports.
The new capability would allow a phone’s built-in voice assistant to send messages or start voice or video calls within WeChat, Chinese financial news outlet Yicai reported.
Tencent has been working with major phone manufacturers, including Huawei Technologies, Honor, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo on the feature, the report said.

Honor has reportedly already rolled out the capability on some of its devices, allowing WeChat control via its assistant Yoyo.
