Dapagliflozin, a type 2 diabetes medication, significantly cuts heart failure risk, especially in people with inherited cardiomyopathy variants.

Genetic screening emerges as a potential tool to guide early prevention strategies for heart failure using targeted therapies.

In the trial, risk of heart failure hospitalisation fell 32 per cent in non-carriers, versus about 80 per cent in variant carriers.

Shinwan Kany, a co-lead author, said, “we do have tools to lower risk in these individuals,” highlighting a shift to actionable prevention.
