Mizan News Agency, quoting the Deputy Governor for Security of Khuzestan Province, reported that the Karun Petrochemical Company in Mahshahr had been targeted in an airstrike.

According to the provincial official, in the early hours of Monday, June 8, the Karun Mahshahr Petrochemical Plant “came under aerial assault and was struck by projectiles,” causing damage to a section of its facilities. In his remarks, the Deputy Governor for Security of Khuzestan Province attributed responsibility for the attack to Israel, referring to the projectiles as those of the “Zionist enemy.”

Minutes after the claim by the Khuzestan Deputy Governor, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), on its official X account, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Mahshahr Petrochemical Plant.

In the early hours of Monday, the Islamic Republic launched missile attacks against Israel in support of Lebanon’s Hezbollah and in response to what it called “violations of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.” Hours later, reports were published regarding retaliatory strikes by the Israeli military against several military centers and infrastructure installations in Iran.
