June 7, 2026 Updated 2:16 pm EDTSergio Pérez has been handed a post-race penalty that has cost the Cadillac team its first Formula 1 point. The penalty drops him down from the 10th place he had inherited when Audi driver Nico Hülkenberg was penalized for late contact with Williams driver Carlos Sainz.Pérez crossed the line 11th on the road in a Monaco Grand Prix race won by Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli, but he was immediately boosted to 10th when Hülkenberg’s 10-second penalty for hitting Sainz at the hairpin was added to the German driver’s race time. That pushed Hülkenberg down to 14th.Pérez had already served a drive-through penalty early in the race for lining up two places ahead of where he should have started — in the spot the other Audi of Gabriel Bortoleto should have occupied but for the Brazilian’s issues pre-lights out that left him starting instead in the pit lane.
Pérez then lined up too far forward for the second start, which followed the late red flag stoppage caused by the track breaking up near the final corner, where Lance Stroll and Charles Leclerc had both crashed out.The Monaco stewards said, in a FIA bulletin that “video evidence showed clearly that the front right wheel of car 11 (Pérez) was outside the starting box” all drivers are required to remain inside when starting. Pérez was also given a reprimand for completing a practice start pre-race in the wrong position in the Monaco pit exit. He ended up 15th in the results. The misfortune of Cadillac — in its first F1 season — is Aston Martin’s gain, as Fernando Alonso is boosted into 10th and the final Monaco point by Pérez’s penalty.
