Sudhir Bangera, 48, of Karkala in Udupi district was arrested by Karkala Town Police on Sunday, for his alleged comment derogating Home Minister Priyank Kharge.

A 48-year-old resident of Karkala was arrested by Karkala Town Police in Udupi district on Sunday for allegedly making derogatory comment against Home Minister Priyank Kharge through a social media post.In a complaint to Karkala Town Police, one Suresh Chetanahalli said he saw on Sunday a post on Namma Karla Facebook account. The post had image of the Home Minister and also the Minister’s statement that the RSS will not be allowed to spread communalism in his two years stint as Home Minister. To this post, one Sudhir Bangera made derogatory comment against Mr. Kharge.Mr. Chetanahalli alleged that Bangera’s comment has potential to create communal hatred. He has also insulted the Dalit community to which Mr. Kharge belonged.The Karkala Town police registered his complaint for offences under Sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Section 33(1)(R)(U) of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.Bangera was arrested and produced before the jurisdictional magistrate on Sunday, the police said in a press release.
