Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is this year’s recipient of the Ted Lindsay Award, awarded to the NHL’s most outstanding player as voted by the National Hockey League Players’ Association. McDavid bested fellow finalists Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks and reigning winner Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning. This win has McDavid in rarefied air. McDavid and Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky are the only five-time Ted Lindsay Award winners in NHL history.“This award, coming from the guys that you play against every single night and battle against every single night,” McDavid said. “And to have them recognize me (with) an award like this, that means so much.”This is also McDavid’s first Ted Lindsay Award win since 2023. That year was also the last time McDavid won the Hart Trophy as the league’s most valuable player, and he is hoping to win the trophy for a fourth time. McDavid is a finalist for this season’s award alongside Kucherov and Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon.
