The Lokayukta Police have arrested a woman police constable and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) attached to Station Bazar Police Station in Kalaburagi on the charge of demanding and accepting bribe money from a woman in connection with a POCSO Act case.The arrested officials have been identified as Jyothi, a police constable, and Shivasharanappa, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, both from Station Bazaar Police Station.According to Lokayukta sources, the complainant, Rohini of Kalaburagi, approached the anti-corruption agency saying that the two police personnel demanded money assuring her of assistance in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.It is said that the accused initially received ₹1,000 from the complainant and later demanded ₹5,000 each for themselves, purportedly to help her in the case.During the course of the conversation, the complainant was told that money will also have to be paid to the Public Prosecutor.Acting on the complaint, the Lokayukta Police caught the accused while they were accepting a total bribe amount of ₹10,000 from the complainant.The operation was carried out under the guidance of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police, Kalaburagi, Siddaraju C.The trap was led by Lokayukta Police Inspector Arun Kumar Murugundi who is now investigating the case.Both the accused have been arrested. Further investigation is under way.After completion of the preliminary investigation, they will be produced before the competent court and remanded in judicial custody, officials said.
