As the world marks World Environment Day 2026, global attention is turning to one of the defining challenges of our time: climate change. This year’s observance, hosted by Azerbaijan under the theme of Climate Action, serves as a powerful reminder that the future of our planet depends on the choices governments, businesses and individuals make today. The campaign calls for accelerated action to reduce emissions, transform energy systems and build a more sustainable future for generations to come.
For BAT Nigeria, climate action is not a future aspiration; it is an ongoing business imperative embedded within its long-term strategy and operations. As one of Nigeria’s leading manufacturers and exporters, the company continues to demonstrate that environmental responsibility and industrial competitiveness are not mutually exclusive. Rather, they are increasingly interconnected drivers of sustainable growth.
At the heart of BAT Nigeria’s environmental journey is a deliberate transformation of how its operations consume and manage energy.
In a landmark achievement, the company has successfully transitioned 100 per cent of its operations from diesel to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), eliminating diesel use entirely across its manufacturing processes. This significant shift has substantially reduced the carbon intensity of operations while enhancing energy efficiency and operational resilience.
