Women self-help groups (SHGs) in Salem district are expected to receive ₹1,715 crore in loans during the 2026-2027 fiscal, said District Collector K. Elambahavath.In a press release, he said district has 2.44 lakh members in 20,700 women self-help groups. Of these, 1.81 lakh members in 15,205 SHGs are in rural areas and 62,954 members in 5,495 SHGs are in urban areas. Of the 20,700 SHGs, 809 are run by the elderly, 866 by tribespeople, 707 by the differently abled and six by transpersons.For the financial year 2025-2026, a target of ₹1,715 crore was fixed to be given as loans to SHGs, and the target was surpassed. For the current fiscal, the target is again ₹1,715 crore, and until the first week of June, ₹80.45 crore has been disbursed.The officials have been instructed to identify eligible SHGs and to provide them with loans. Through review meetings, suggestions are given to officials to market the products produced by the women’s SHGs through e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart as well as on Instagram.Likewise, these products will be displayed for sale in local festivals, government and non-government exhibitions and book festivals, the District Collector added.
