The controversy followed comments made by Toriola during a press conference titled “Data on Trial” held in Lagos on Saturday, where the MTN boss argued that unlimited data offerings are not practical on mobile networks.
Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Omoyele Sowore, has sharply criticised the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, over his claim that unlimited mobile data plans do not exist anywhere in the world unless consumers pay exorbitant prices.
Sowore described the assertion as false and accused telecommunications operators of burdening Nigerians with high tariffs, poor service quality and what he called “endless excuses.”
The controversy followed comments made by Toriola during a press conference titled “Data on Trial” held in Lagos on Saturday, where the MTN boss argued that unlimited data offerings are not practical on mobile networks.
“The issue of unlimited data on mobile network, it does not exist anywhere in the world, except you are paying $400 a month or whatever. There are high bundles and fair usage policies,” Toriola said.
