Peter Hegseth accused of trying to stir up ‘hard line support for the right wing across Europe’
The US Defence Secretary urged Europe to counter what he termed an “invasion” of its coastline by migration, as he marked the 82nd anniversary of the Second World War D-Day landings in France.
“Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies. Beaches in Spain and Italy and Greece and Bulgaria. Boats and men arrive,” said Hegseth.
“When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late? I pray not.”
His comments echoed the argument of the administration of Donald Trump, the US President that mass migration represents a danger to European civilisation.
