For all its glitz and glamor, it's rare that events in Monte Carlo have a decisive sway over the ultimate drivers' standings at the end of the season. Yet, considering the lead that Kimi Antonelli has already built up, a win at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix (June 5-7) would make the task of the rest of the grid extremely hard to reel him back in before we reach Abu Dhabi in December.

After finishing Canada's Sprint Race in third and starting the G.P. itself behind teammate George Russell, there was a feeling in Montreal that Antonelli's dominance may be coming to an end. But, with no little help from the malfunctioning cars of Russell and champion Lando Norris, the 19-year-old cruised to a fifth consecutive victory. That put more than 40 points between him and his fellow Mercedes driver after only five races gone.

For the other drivers and constructors, they can only look at last year's events on the streets of Monaco and hope it bodes badly for Antonelli and co. Mercedes had a shocker here in 2025, unable to take away a single point. Norris, Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri made up the podium; they and three-time winner Lewis Hamilton will all be desperate for success this weekend as they try to stop the Italian waltzing away with the title before the season has barely begun.Taking place over 78 laps of the famous street circuit, neutral fans will simply be hoping for more of a spectacle than the narrow straights, tight hairpins and winding slaloms have been able to yield over recent races.Want to stay on top of all the action?
