Miami, June 6 (EFE).- Twelve people, including two in critical condition, were injured in a shooting at a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, police said, revising an earlier toll of eight wounded reported by city officials.Speaking at a press conference, Toledo Police Assistant Chief Joe Heffernan said investigators believe the shooting began when two individuals exchanged gunfire during the Old West End Festival, a popular neighborhood celebration.Authorities are continuing to search for the suspects involved.The Toledo Police Department said the victims range in age from 14 to 61 and were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.Earlier, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz told local television station WTOL 11 that eight people were wounded and all victims were expected to recover from injuries sustained during the shooting at the Old West End Festival, a neighborhood event.The Toledo Police Department said officers responding to the scene found multiple gunshot victims and continued to search for the person or persons responsible.Police reported that several victims had been transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment but did not provide details on their conditions or the motive behind the shooting.A “deeply concerned” Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said that «summer festivals should be safe spaces for families to spend time together without fear of violence.»«We are confident that law enforcement will locate the suspects involved in this senseless crime,» DeWine wrote on social media platform X.The shooting was reported at 5:37 p.m. local time (21:37 GMT) near the festival grounds at the intersection of Delaware and Glenwood avenues.Responding officers «discovered multiple shooting victims,» the Toledo Police Department said in a post on social media.Police said that officers were actively searching for the suspect or suspects involved.«The investigation currently includes scenes in the area of Delaware Avenue and Robinwood Avenue,” the police statement said.“Residents and visitors are asked to avoid the area and expect a significant police presence as officers continue their search and investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.»Videos shared on social media appeared to show people fleeing food stalls and vendor booths, dropping to the ground, and taking cover behind vehicles as gunfire erupted.The United States has recorded 170 mass shootings so far this year, according to the non-profit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which defines a mass shooting as an incident involving four or more victims, excluding the perpetrator.
