Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus named an expanded squad for the first two matches of the season against the Barbarians and Zimbabwe in a couple of weeks in Gqeberha.

The next generation of players will get a first taste of a Springbok training camp after head coach Rassie Erasmus named a mixed bag of players in his extended Bok squad for the matches against the Barbarians and Zimbabwe’s Sables in a couple of weeks.

Erasmus cast his net wide and included 51 players for Monday’s camp in Johannesburg ahead of what is set to be a defining 2026 international season.

Of the 51-man squad, 21 players are uncapped, which shows the direction Erasmus and his management team are thinking. Injured players like flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, utility forward Kwagga Smith and scrumhalf Cobus Reinach were not included, but there were some good news with Malcolm Marx, Pieter-Steph du Toit and Lood de Jager in the mix following injury concerns.

The Springboks will start the season against the Baabaas on 20 June in Gqeberha, while the SA ‘A’ team will clash against Zimbabwe, with plenty of youngsters expected to play for the second-string side.
