LEGAZPI CITY — Two alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter with government forces in Goa, Camarines Sur, on Saturday morning (June 6), military officials said.
The firefight broke out at around 5 a.m. in Barangay San Isidro West during an operation conducted by the 83rd Infantry Battalion in coordination with the Philippine National Police.
Brig. Gen. Emil Cruz, commander of the 901st Infantry Brigade, identified the fatalities as Jonathan Mendez, also known by the aliases Errol, Manuel, Maria, and Jun, and Nilo Caballero, alias Richard.
The military said both were believed to be members of Sub-Regional Committee 2 of the Bicol Regional Party Committee.
