TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to oversee the accelerated construction of Phase II of the People's Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) so that these educational facilities can be utilized in the 2026/2027 academic year.PU Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the government continues to intensively monitor the implementation of the People's Schools construction, including ensuring that any obstacles faced by service providers are promptly addressed."We collaborate with Danantara almost daily. If there are financial difficulties or other obstacles in the field, we help find solutions so that work is not delayed. Currently, service providers are increasingly optimistic and working faster to meet the completion target," Hanggodo said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday. As of June 4, 2026, five People's School locations have recorded the highest physical progress and are part of the project group in the green zone for accelerated construction. The five locations are the People's Schools in Semarang City with 86.58 percent progress, Sragen Regency with 86.09 percent, Central Java Province; and Bengkulu City with 85.77 percent.Next, Medan City, North Sumatra Province, reached 85.69 percent; and Sidenreng Rappang Regency (Sidrap), South Sulawesi Province, reached 84.83 percent. These achievements place these five locations as the locations with the highest physical progress among the 93 Phase II Public Schools currently under construction by the Ministry of Public Works.According to Dody, the accelerated construction was achieved through cross-stakeholder coordination, including construction service providers, construction management, local governments, and funding and labor support."We are indeed working within a very short timeframe. Ideally, it would probably be nine months, but the current situation requires us to move faster. Therefore, daily monitoring is carried out to ensure progress remains on target," he said.Data from the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure at the Ministry of Public Works shows that the average physical construction progress at the 93 Phase II People's Schools had reached 71.13 percent as of June 4, 2026, with a consistent upward trend over the past week. Of the total locations currently under construction, 12 have achieved progress above 80 percent and are classified as green zones for acceleration. For example, the Semarang City Elementary School is beginning to take on a more complete appearance. The completion of educational buildings, dormitories, and various supporting facilities continues to be accelerated.Similar conditions are also evident in Sragen, Medan, Bengkulu, and Sidrap, which are now entering the final stages of construction. At these locations, construction activities are proceeding almost continuously to meet the completion target of June 20, 2026.To maintain the momentum of acceleration, the Ministry of Public Works is also optimizing workforce support in the field. As of early June 2026, the construction of Phase II of the People's School had employed approximately 78,113 workers.Furthermore, personnel reinforcements are being carried out at several locations requiring additional acceleration through support from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).Read: Indonesia to Open 10 People's Schools in JakartaClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
