A 45-year-old mentally challenged man killed himself here on Saturday.Police said, the deceased was identified as Jayavel, a resident of South Street.According to police, Jayavel had been battling mental health issues since childhood and was undergoing ongoing medical treatment at the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital.He lived with his younger brother, Ajith Karthik, following the demise of their parents.According to the police, Jayavel suffered severe episode on Saturday. He reportedly left his house without clothes, walked towards the Anandham area, and created a public nuisance at a local tea shop.After the commotion, he returned to his neighbourhood and jumped into a narrow open well situated adjacent to his house.Alarmed by the incident, neighbours immediately alerted the Fire and Rescue Services Department. Emergency response teams rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation.Firefighters managed to recover Jayavel’s body after a coordinated effort.
