Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat emphasised the importance of satellite-based maritime surveillance systems for strategic coastal cities during his visit to Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) in Tromso Norway.As part of the final day of the India–Norway Knowledge Exchange tour, Mr. Sribharat, accompanied by Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari, visited KSAT, a globally recognised organisation providing satellite-based maritime monitoring, environmental observation, and security services.KSAT operates an extensive network of satellite ground stations and advanced monitoring systems that support maritime domain awareness across the world.During the visit, KSAT representatives provided detailed insights into their satellite technologies and applications, including maritime traffic monitoring, detection of illegal fishing activities, oil spill surveillance, environmental monitoring, and the collection of climate-related data.Mr. Sribharat stated that such systems can play a vital role in safeguarding marine resources, strengthening coastal and maritime security, improving disaster management capabilities, and supporting environmental conservation efforts.The discussions also explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation between India and Norway in areas such as sustainable development, green technologies, the blue economy, and the use of space technology for public benefit.He also emphasised that knowledge-sharing initiatives and technology partnerships between the two countries can contribute to innovation-driven growth and help address global challenges related to climate change, environmental protection, and maritime governance.
