To mark National Complementary Feeding Day on Saturday, the Department of Paediatrics at King George Hospital (KGH) and Andhra Medical College (AMC) launched two new digital health tools – FirstFoods KGH and FeedSmart KGH – aimed at improving infant nutrition awareness and tracking. The apps were unveiled by AMC principal Dr. K.V.S.M. Sandhya Devi and KGH Superintendent Dr. I. Vani. The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. B.S. Chakravarthy, the Head of the Department of Paediatrics, and his team.Speaking at the launch, Dr. Vani emphasised that proper complementary feeding is critical for physical growth and cognitive development after an infant reaches the age of six months. She noted that many parents struggle with questions regarding the timing, frequency, and variety of foods to introduce, as well as managing dietary needs during illness. The FirstFoods KGH app is designed to provide clear, bilingual (Telugu-English) guidance on introducing solid foods, managing food allergies, and recognising danger signs in children.Complementing this, FeedSmart KGH acts as a personalised feeding guide for children aged 6-24 months, offering features like a food diversity score and the ability to save, print, or share reports via WhatsApp.Dr. Devi lauded the initiative, stating that the apps would serve as a vital bridge between doctors and patients, benefiting not only parents but also frontline health workers such as ANMs, ASHAs, Anganwadi staff, and medical students. The developers emphasised that the apps are user-friendly, with a focus on data privacy and security.
