Shwetha Menon and Cuckoo Parameswaran
The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) is yet to finalise whether to constitute a five-member or three-member committee to hear and resolve complaints, including those raised by its former joint secretary Ansiba Hassan.AMMA president Shwetha Menon had told the media last week that a five-member committee would be formed, comprising herself, general secretary Cuckoo Parameswaran, and three independent members outside the executive committee. However, it is now reliably learnt that even a three-member committee, excluding the president and general secretary, may be constituted in an attempt to resolve the matter in a seemingly fair and unbiased manner ahead of AMMA’s annual general body meeting scheduled for June 21.Though a section of the media reported the names of three potential independent candidates, AMMA sources clarified that no such decision has been taken. The final decision, once taken, will be conveyed to the parties concerned, including Ms. Hassan, through mail, sources said.Ms. Hassan confirmed that she has not received any official communication regarding the formation of an independent committee. In an earlier response to a notice from AMMA requesting her to appear for a hearing on her complaints, she had insisted on a three-member independent panel for a “fair and impartial” hearing. She recommended the names of Ramesh Pisharody, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Maala Parvathy, “or any unbiased personalities.”Ms. Hassan reiterated that she would appear before such a committee only if she is convinced of the independence and fairness of the members, since her allegations were against the president, vice-president, and an executive member of AMMA. She has already lodged a petition with Infopark police against actor and AMMA executive committee member Tini Tom over alleged communal remarks and derogatory comments, and another with the Chief Minister, Home Minister, and State Police Chief against vice-president Lakshmi Priya, accusing her of filing a fabricated case with the Tripunithura women’s police station. The complaint also named the sub-inspector of the station as an accused, alleging that she was harassed for three hours over the fabricated case. Published - June 06, 2026 07:19 pm IST
