A massive midnight security operation covering 562 hotels and lodges was conducted by Hyderabad City Police under ‘Operation Kavach’ on Friday, as part of efforts to strengthen internal security and prevent the movement of anti-social elements within the city.Around 5,000 police personnel participated in the coordinated operation, which was carried out between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. across all seven zones of the city. During the inspections, police teams scrutinised hotel registers, verified guest details and checked whether establishments were properly validating identity documents before allotting rooms.Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar personally supervised the operation and inspected several lodges near Nampally Railway Station and Ameerpet. He reviewed room allotment procedures and register maintenance practices and interacted with guests to verify their native places, purpose of visit and other credentials.According to police, the operation covered 119 establishments in Khairatabad zone, 92 in Shamshabad, 86 each in Jubilee Hills and Golconda, 82 in Secunderabad, 53 in Rajendranagar and 44 in Charminar.Law and Order personnel worked jointly during the operation to examine hotel records and conduct checks in guest rooms.Following the inspections, the Commissioner directed hotel and lodge operators to strictly comply with security regulations. He instructed management to physically verify original identity cards of all guests, retain photocopies and ensure registers contain complete details, including verified contact numbers and accurate check-in and check-out timings.The Commissioner also said the department was preparing to introduce a Digital Visitor Management System to strengthen monitoring of guests. Hotel managements were instructed to install high-definition CCTV cameras covering entry and exit points and reception areas and ensure the systems remain operational round the clock.Police urged hotel staff and members of the public to report suspicious persons or activities through Dial 100 or at the nearest police station.
