During the 1980s, the Baroque palace was seized by Cosa Nostra mafia bosses, who notoriously allowed a wild boar to roam freely through the ballroom and had a statue airlifted out of the gardens by helicopter.The estate was courageously reclaimed by Italian Princess Vittoria Alliata di Villafranca, who successfully expelled the mob.
