After a successful run in theatres, Malayalam action-comedy Athiradi is preparing to reach a wider audience through its digital release. The film generated considerable buzz upon its theatrical debut, thanks to the reunion of fan-favourite actors Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph. Backed by strong word-of-mouth and positive audience response, the movie went on to emerge as one of the Malayalam box-office successes of the year, reportedly collecting more than Rs 50 crore worldwide.Streaming details of AthiradiThe makers have now confirmed that Athiradi will begin streaming on Sony LIV from June 19, 2026. The announcement was made by the streaming platform on Friday. The film's OTT premiere comes a little over a month after its theatrical release on May 14, giving viewers who missed it in cinemas a chance to catch it at home.Directed by debutant Arun Anirudhan, Athiradi blends campus drama, comedy and action into an entertaining package. The story centres on Samkutty, played by Basil Joseph, a young man determined to revive a college festival that has remained dormant for years. What begins as an ambitious attempt to bring back a beloved tradition soon spirals into a larger conflict. The trouble starts when Samkutty's plans clash with the interests of Sreekuttan, portrayed by Tovino Thomas. Once known as a feared local thug, Sreekuttan has a long-cherished dream of performing his song before a live audience. When the revived festival threatens that dream, he resorts to increasingly drastic measures to stop the event from happening. The resulting rivalry forms the heart of the film, combining humour, emotional moments and action-packed sequences.More about AthiradiOne of the biggest attractions of Athiradi is the reunion of Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas.
