Madden 27Credit: EAMadden 27 and College Football 27 got a star-studded and strong introduction on Thursday, June 4. The community was treated to tons of new features and innovation. There is no shortage of attention being paid to Dynasty and Franchise Mode in the two games. That's a beautiful thing and it's making the overall landscape better.Even with all the new additions, there's still a small group of things that will likely be missing from Madden 27. To be completely honest, the decision is probably out of EA's hands. However, fans probably won't care enough to investigate or give much grace in the situation. That said, I'll point them out and offer the logical explanation for the absences — at least for two of them.Key Facts at a GlanceConfirmed Franchise additions: Persona Engine, contract reworks, Free Agent Frenzy, UDFA period, expanded coachingStill missing: true league expansion beyond 32 teamsStill missing: native College Football 27 draft-class importStill missing: improved injury presentation and medical-history scoutingFull reveal: the June 4 Opening Drive showcaseDoes Madden 27 Add League Expansion Beyond 32 Teams?I'd love to bring in a second Chicago NFL team — especially considering my Chicago Bears might soon be playing their home games in Hammond, IN. I'd also like to add teams to cities like Hawaii and San Juan without removing a current NFL team. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though that'll be the case.Play Puzzles & Games on ForbesIf it was included in Madden 27, we probably would have learned about it at the Opening Drive. In case you're wondering why, it's simple but complicated. The entire league structure, back-end concepts from schedules to draft order, and all under-the-hood logic are built around a 32-team league. It is no small undertaking to build logic that effectively supports leagues of 33+ teams. Because there is no real-life presence of an expanded league, the push doesn't have enough legs to get done. What EA did detail leans on the existing 32-team sandbox rather than growing it, with the Franchise updates centered on reworked contracts, a Free Agent Frenzy window and deeper staff tools. That leaves league runners on the same footing as before, where the only way to "expand" is to relocate an existing club or spin up a second league entirely. Can You Import College Football 27 Draft Classes Into Madden 27?One of the most highly requested features in the EA football community used to be a feature in college and Madden football. Exporting draft classes from college to Madden was something many of us looked forward to doing and would love the opportunity to do again in the upcoming titles.Unfortunately, the complications around the NIL deals and player likenesses still make that a no-go for EA. I understand, but it sucks. However, with College Football 27 heading to PC this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see a tool developed that brings this back to life — at the very least for the PC modding community. There is a narrower pipeline that does exist: a Road to Glory player can be carried into Superstar mode through a cloud-based transfer, a system that has run since College Football 25. The community’s counterargument for full draft classes is that after several Dynasty seasons every college roster becomes CPU-generated, which should sidestep the licensing issue. In full transparency, I’d pay for an even higher-priced SKU that gave fans more content like exporting and importing draft classes, etc. Perhaps that additional revenue could go to the players. For now the only options remain third-party export tools and hand-built classes shared through the Download Center.Does Madden 27 Improve Injury Presentation? For years, I have championed the idea of having more care and realism applied to injury presentation in Madden. This area of the game wasn't discussed in Opening Drive and wasn't referenced in the deep dive blog, so I'm not expecting this piece of presentation to change. In a nutshell, when players in the NFL get injured in a game, you don't find out the severity of the injury immediately. There is some drama and anxiousness as you wait for more details. We've seen some slight steps in this direction, but nothing that matches the real feel of NFL injuries for teams and the fanbase. The community wishlist has long gone beyond just wanting more injuries, asking for TV-style cutaways when they happen, clearer reports and timelines in the menus, and medical history folded into scouting and free agency. None of that surfaced this time, though it could still appear in some communication between now and launch. Still, I’m leaning toward no on this one.
Madden 27 Franchise Mode Got Better, But Here’s 3 Things Still Missing
Madden 27's Franchise mode is the best in years, but league expansion, native College Football 27 draft imports and improved injury presentation are all still missing.
