The actor - best known for his roles in Buffy, Little Britain, and, more recently, Ted Lasso - has passed away at the age of 72.His daughters, actresses Emily and Daisy Head, announced the tragic news in a statement to the Press Association. It said: "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father, Anthony Head."Giving more details of the circumstances and cause of death, the statement continued: "He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family."Paying tribute to their father, Emily - famous for playing Carli D'Amato in E4's sitcom The Inbetweeners - and Daisy, star of Harlots, The Syndicate and Shadow and Bone, said: "It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many."The pair, both famous in their own right, added: "We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in – he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky, to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades."They ended by saying: "Our grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of, and in the audiences that love them.“How lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us." The family went on to ask for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.Anthony got his big break in the early Nineties when he starred in the Nescafé Gold Blend instant coffee adverts, alongside Sharon Maughan, taking on the role of Tony and Sharon. The adverts aired on screens between 1987 and 1993 and ranked 20th on ITV’s Best Ever Ads list.He went on to play Rupert Giles in Buffy, catapulting him to world fame from 1997 to 2003. Fans will remember him for playing the Prime Minister in Little Britain from 20023 to 2006.He's also appeared in BBC drama Merlin and in episodes of Doctor Who, Silent Witness, Monarch of the Glen and Motherland. Most recently, he was known for playing former Richmond FC owner Rupert Mannion, the ex-husband of Hannah Waddingham’s character Rebecca, in hit football comedy Ted Lasso.The shock news of Anthony's death comes just six months after the death of his partner, Sarah Fisher. The 61-year-old - who was also mum to Emily, 37, and 35-year-old Daisy - passed away suddenly from cancer in December 2025.In a touching social media post at the time, Emily and Daisy wrote of their mother: "It is immensely shocking to us all, and came with very little warning."They added: "No words could ever express all that she encompassed, or begin to describe the crater her absence has left.
