Frustrated by the continued dumping of garbage at several locations across the city despite repeated directions to civic authorities, the Karnataka Lokayukta on Friday conducted inspections and directed officials to immediately clear identified waste black spots. The Lokayukta had earlier taken suo motu cognisance of waste disposal and garbage dumping in areas falling under the five corporations of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).Several rounds of inquiries had already been conducted, with the GBA officials summoned on different occasions and given directions to address the problem. However, as the issue continues to persist and complaints are still being received, the Lokayukta constituted five teams comprising police officers of various ranks to assess the situation on the ground and submit reports, a statement from the Lokayukta said on Friday. The teams carried out inspections across the five corporations in the morning. The inspections were carried out in R.T. Nagar, Byatarayanapura and surrounding areas under the North City Corporation where around six garbage black spots were identified. During the inspection, officials from the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) were directed to clear the identified locations and submit a report on the action taken.
