Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to initiate comprehensive action plan to transform Visakhapatnam into a world-class ‘Bay City’.During a high-level review meeting on the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) here on Friday, the Chief Minister outlined a vision to develop the coastal corridor stretching from Kailasagiri to Bhogapuram.To oversee the implementation of the VER vision, Mr. Naidu instructed the establishment of a dedicated Project Monitoring Unit.He directed construction of a convention centre on 303 acres of land currently held by the Greyhounds unit, development of the Kailasagiri region into both a spiritual and tourism hub, with emphasis on beach water sports and entertainment projects to attract private investment, upgrading the city’s zoological park, and improving the conservation and tourism potential of the Erramatti Dibbalu (red sand dunes) and local Buddhist heritage sites.The Chief Minister emphasised that the broader regional strategy would integrate major landmarks, including the Akhanda Godavari project in Rajamahendravaram, the Polavaram project, and the Papikondalu tourism circuit.Mr. Naidu underscored that establishing townships near industrial zones would be critical for supporting this infrastructure expansion.The government plans to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the development process. Mr. Naidu asked officials to place the NITI Aayog report on the VER project in the public domain to invite feedback from students and intellectuals.The meeting was attended by Union Civil Aviation Minister K.
