Lions coach Ivan van Rooyen was on Friday crowned URC Coach of the Year.
More than a crumb of comfort for the Lions after their blowout in the United Rugby Championship quarter-finals is the announcement that Ivan "Cash" van Rooyen is the URC Coach of the Season.
The Johannesburg-based team made the playoffs of the URC for the first time after finishing seventh in the 16-team standings.
The 44-year-old Van Rooyen earned the award in the best possible way — via a poll of the head coaches and directors of rugby in the competition.
It’s a reward that acknowledges the strides the Lions have made under him.
