India’s tea production grew by about per cent to 104.28 million kg (mkg) in April on output rebound in Assam, the country’s largest producing State, on favourable weather conditions.However, production in other States such as West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala annd Karnataka continued to trail last year’s levels.Per the Tea Board data, the overall tea output during April stood at 104.28 mkg compared with 99.40 mkg a year ago.In Assam Valley, the production during April saw a sharp increase of 36 per cent to 52.58 mkg (38.63 mkg in April last year). However in Cachar, the output was tad lower at 2.83 mkg (2.86 mkg). Total output in Assam was 55.41 mkg (41.49 mkg).In Dooars region of West Bengal, the production was lower at 15.40 mkg (16.80 mkg). Similarly, in Terai, the output was down at 10.96 mkg (15.53 mkg), while in Darjeeling it was marginally up at 0.80 mkg (0.67 mkg). Overall production in West Bengal was down 17 per cent at 27.16 mkg (33 mkg).Tea output in North India was up 11 per cent at 85.34 mkg (76.94 mkg).Cumulative output tops 200 mkgIn South India, tea production during April was down at 14.49 mkg (16.57 mkg), whereas in Kerala, the output declined to 4.09 mkg and in Karnataka at 0.36 mkg (0.44 mkg).Overall output in South India was lower by 15 per cent at 18.94 mkg (22.46 mkg)Category-wise, CTC tea output was 91.57 mkg during April, while Orthodox tea production was 11.17 mkg and green tea at 1.54 mkg.The cumulative output during January-April 2026 stood at 201.89 mkg.
