The prosecution alleged that the two defendants, acting alongside other suspects who remain at large, tied Augustine Ekwueme's hands and legs with ropes and pieces of cloth before assaulting him to death in the presence of their wives.

In a dramatic twist to an ongoing murder case in Enugu State, a family has accused fleeing murder suspects of attempting to use the Nigeria Police Force Zone 13 Command in Ukpo, Anambra State, to intimidate and prosecute key witnesses involved in the case.

A petition dated May 27, 2026, and addressed to the Inspector General of Police, a copy of which was obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, alleges that individuals linked to the killing of 56-year-old Augustine Ekwueme are seeking to frustrate the murder investigation by filing what the family described as false allegations of arson and malicious damage against those who reported the crime.

The dispute stems from the killing of Augustine Ekwueme on December 30, 2025, in Obinagu Akpugoeze, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to Charge Sheet No. MEN/100C/2026 filed before an Enugu Magistrate Court by Police Legal Officer C.U. Ezike, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, 38, and Christian Ekwueme, 41, were arraigned on March 13, 2026, on charges of conspiracy and murder.
