Walmart $WMT +0.73% announced Thursday that customers can now order Subway sandwiches through the Walmart app or Walmart.com for delivery in 30 minutes or less, either on their own or bundled with groceries and other household items. The service marks the first restaurant integration within Walmart's Express Delivery program.
The feature is currently available in select locations across Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas, according to Subway. A full rollout to all 1,400 in-store Subway locations is targeted for late July, according to Tracy Poulliot, Walmart's vice president of e-commerce and marketing, who spoke with Business Insider.
Customers can browse the full Subway menu, customize orders down to individual toppings, and add meals to their cart alongside grocery and household items. Pricing matches in-restaurant menus, and certain items are available exclusively through Walmart, including Smoky and BBQ Grilled Chicken subs and SuperPretzel Soft Pretzels, the company said.
Walmart executives noted that Subway's roughly two-decade presence inside its stores made it a natural starting point for the program, given its standing as the retailer's biggest in-store dining partner. More than 1,400 Subway locations currently operate within Walmart stores across the U.S., the company said.
