Former Lieutenant Colonel Khephu Ndlovu was sentenced to 17 years' imprisonment for defeating the administration of justice. He is currently challenging his sentence and conviction.
Former senior police officers sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment for accepting a bribe to manipulate evidence in a 2018 murder case are now challenging both their convictions and sentences at the Pinetown Regional Court.
The former officers — Sergeant Bonginkosi Dlamini and Lieutenant Colonel Khephu Ndlovu — argue that Magistrate Muntukayise Khumalo misdirected himself when imposing the 17-year prison sentences.
Dlamini and Ndlovu were convicted for accepting R120,000 to weaken evidence linked to the 2018 murder of ANC branch leader Thulani Nxumalo.
At the time, Dlamini was a member of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT). He served as the investigating officer in Nxumalo’s murder case, while Ndlovu allegedly acted as a coordinator between Dlamini and the family of Nxumalo’s killer.
