President William Ruto on Friday appointed Major General John Maiso Nkoimo as Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army. In the most recent raft of appoinments and promotions, the Head of State picked him to replace Maj Gen Mohamed Nur Hassan who has proceeded to retirement.

Maj Gen Nkoimo, who was until now the General Officer Commanding Central Command, once led the Kenyan Army when it headed to Kismayu in southern Somalia circa 2011 to counter threats posed by Al-Shabaab. His career in the Kenya Army started as a Cadet in 1990, and he was later posted to the 20 Parachute Battalion at Gilgil as a Second Lieutenant.

President Ruto has promoted Brigadier William Kamoiro to the rank of Maj Gen and appointed him to replace Maj Gen Nkoimo as General Officer Commanding Central Command.
