Officials say the device was a naval drone "similar to those used in Ukraine"
A powerful explosion occurred on Thursday morning in Romania’s Port of Constanța after a naval drone, earlier discovered in the area, self-detonated, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defence.
Romanian officials described the device as a “type of naval drone similar to those used in the war in Ukraine”, stressing that it did not belong to the Romanian Armed Forces and was not connected to recent military exercises conducted in the Black Sea region.
The unmanned maritime drone had been found earlier in the civilian section of the Black Sea port. Security forces from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), the Coast Guard, and the Ministry of Defence had already isolated the area.
