The standoff, which unfolded in Spotswood, lasted for about two hours before the man eventually surrendered to police.The operation commenced shortly after 8am on Friday (June 5, 2026) when officers arrived and began negotiating with the man, believed to be armed, inside a property on Hudsons Road in Spotswood, as reported by 9News. At around 10.20am, members of the unit arrested him without incident.Video of arrest emerges Multiple media outlets, including 7News Melbourne and 9News, obtained dramatic footage of the man being detained and led away from the property by police. One witness told 9News that there was “a lot of negotiation going on”. “It sent shockwaves through us, a bit scary... being so close to home.” As the siege spread fear and anxiety throughout the area, officers urged residents nearby to remain indoors and advised people to avoid Hudsons Road. Those living between Hicks Street and Melbourne Road, as well as between Birmingham Street and The Avenue, were directed to stay inside their homes.A significant section of Hudsons Road was closed off, including an area near a primary school. The site was later cleared by police.
