The New York Times reported Monday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth personally intervened to strike the names of three female and two black male Navy captains, as well as four white men, from a list of 22 officers set to be promoted to the one-star rank of rear admiral (lower half). That leaves no women and only two non-black minorities on the list sent forward to the Senate for confirmation.
