In celebration of Samoan language week, local star of legendary Samoan band Punialava’a, Leluaipouomalo Punialava’a Peteru, performed for Samoan travellers en route to Samoa at the Auckland Airport.
In a post on his official social media platform, Leluaipouomalo, who works for Air New Zealand, said he felt honoured to perform for his people before they travelled back to Samoa.
“I had the honour of singing for our people before they boarded their flight to Apia,” said Leluaipouomalo.
It was an emotional moment for Leluaipouomalo as he expressed that people have their own reasons to travel, whether it be for a family faalavelave, a birthday, a wedding, a reunion and so forth.
“I got emotional looking around the gate lounge and thinking about all the different reasons people were travelling. Some for celebration, some for loss, some out of obligation, and some simply returning home,” said Leluaipouomalo.
