The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill aimed at supporting Ukraine and strengthening sanctions against Russia.
According to an Ukrinform correspondent, the measure was approved by 226 lawmakers, while 195 voted against it.
“This bill addresses the war between Russia and Ukraine by providing assistance to Ukraine and certain European countries, and establishing penalties for Russia and certain foreign persons (individuals and entities),” the explanatory memorandum states.
If enacted, the legislation would establish a fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction and extend the authority of the U.S. President to provide military assistance to Ukraine. It also calls for the expansion of sanctions against Russia.
The bill must still be approved by the United States Senate, though its prospects are currently considered uncertain, as the Republican Party holds the majority in the chamber.
