RIYADH: King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) has earned Diamond status in the World Stroke Organization Awards, the latest in a string of international recognitions that have reinforced the Saudi institution’s standing among the world’s leading academic medical centers.
According to a news release published on KFSH’s official website, the award recognizes the hospital’s Neuroscience Center of Excellence for meeting advanced international standards in stroke care, including providing clot-dissolving treatment within 60 minutes to at least 75 percent of eligible stroke patients.
The World Stroke Organization’s Diamond designation is awarded to medical centers that demonstrate high performance in emergency response, treatment efficiency, patient safety and specialized stroke care. Assessments are based on independent clinical and operational indicators, including treatment times and the effectiveness of catheter-based interventions.
KFSH said a key factor behind the recognition was the launch of the Middle East’s first Mobile Stroke Unit, equipped with a CT scanner and staffed by a specialized neurology team. The unit allows diagnosis and treatment to begin at a patient’s location and continue during transport to the hospital, reducing delays that can worsen stroke-related complications.
