AI agent web traffic has surpassed that of humans, lending weight to the ‘dead internet’ theory

Cloudflare Inc. co-founder and Chief Executive Matthew Prince says that artificial intelligence agents now drive the bulk of the internet’s traffic, having surpassed human web activity for the first time. The milestone was crossed much earlier than most people had anticipated, in another illustration of the incredible pace of AI’s seemingly unstoppable rise.

Prince announced the milestone in a post on X:

Welp, that happened faster than I predicted. Thought it would be end of 2027, then early 2027, but agentic traffic growing so fast that bots have now passed human traffic online for the first time in the Internet’s history. https://t.co/2zX5bHdhsa
