A California man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing his mother’s 81-year-old boyfriend and then calling 911 to tell officers he was the suspect they were seeking, authorities said. The accused, identified as Michael Gledhill, 44, was booked on one count of murder in connection with the killing of actor James Handy, according to a Los Angeles Police Department press release cited by PEOPLE.The release further stated that officers responded to a radio call at a residence in the 19200 block of Erwin Street in Tarzana around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,” the 911 caller allegedly told dispatch, according to the release. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Handy in the front yard of the home, “unconscious and suffering from a stab wound to his chest,” the release stated. He was rushed to a local where he was pronounced deceased. Authorities said Gledhill approached officers at the scene, allegedly “telling them he was the one they were looking for.” Investigators noted that he lived in the residence with his mother, who is Handy’s girlfriend.Following his arrest, Gledhill was taken to the Van Nuys Jail, where he is being held on a $2 million bond. As of Thursday, June 4, 2026 it remained unclear whether formal charges have been filed in the case.
