The only direct flights between the Kāpiti Coast and Auckland are being suspended.
Air Chathams announced it will halt its service from Kāpiti Coast Airport on July 31, a route it took over from Air New Zealand in 2018.
Chief executive Duane Emeny said the decision to suspend the route was tough but necessary to protect the airline's overall viability, including its lifeline service to the Chatham Islands.
"The last five years have seen operating costs in every part of the business rise dramatically," Emeny said.
Rising expenses in aircraft maintenance, labour, airport charges, air traffic control fees, compliance, and fuel meant the route was losing money on every flight.
