TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State Secretary Minister, Prasetyo Hadi, dismissed rumors of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa exiting the cabinet, stating that there's no plan to replace him.According to Prasetyo, the rumor has also been denied by Purbaya. He said, "I think it was conveyed by him yesterday evening. There is no plan to replace him," he said in the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, June 4, 2026, referring to Purbaya. This Gerindra Party politician emphasized that Indonesia currently needs close and intense coordination between the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, and the Financial Services Authority. He also called on intensive coordination between the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and its subordinate ministers.Prasetyo also denied that President Prabowo Subianto is planning a cabinet reshuffle in the near future. "There is no plan for that, not yet," he said.Talks about Purbaya leaving his post as Finance Minister has been widely circulated on social media, something that the minister denied on Thursday. The rumor surfaced amid rupiah's weakening against the US dollar. On Thursday morning, the rupiah value breached the level of Rp18,000 per US dollar for the first time in history.Purbaya acknowledged that the weakening currency will inflate the burden of the government’s debt. However, he noted that the coupons on government bonds, or their fixed-rate yields, remain constant. "This is still within our previous calculations," he told reporters when met at the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Thursday. The state treasurer explained that his ministry had already run simulations for when the price of crude oil rises. For context, the macro assumption for the exchange rate anchored in the 2026 State Budget was set at Rp16,500 per US dollar.Even so, Purbaya declined to disclose the level of the rupiah used in those emergency simulations. "The adjustment is quite high, but I won't mention it, as [speculating] could trigger further significant weakening of the rupiah. Fundamentally, however, the value of the rupiah sits below this current level, stronger than it is today," he stated.Anastasya Lavenia Yudi contributed to writing this article.Read: What Purbaya Said About Rumors of His Resignation as Finance MinisterClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
