The Punjab Police have made public the first information report (FIR) registered against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia and several party associates in connection with the alleged assault and disturbance at Majitha police station, following directions from a local court.Following the incident, police teams have conducted raids at several locations linked to Majithia, including his residences in Amritsar and Chandigarh. However, the senior Akali leader has reportedly remained untraceable. (HT)The FIR, registered on May 31 at Majitha police station in Amritsar Rural district, was disclosed four days later after the Amritsar court directed the police to provide details of the case on a petition filed by Majithia’s counsel.Apart from former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia, the FIR names Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Jodh Singh Samra, advocate Bikramjit Singh Baath, SAD Amritsar Rural president Raja Ladeh and party leader Sahib Singh Hamja. Additionally, around 50 unidentified persons have been listed as accused in the case.According to the FIR, the accused have been booked under nine sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — 132 (assault against a public servant), 221 (intentional obstruction of any public servant while they are carrying out their duties), 304 (snatching), 62 (attempt to commit offence), 263 (rescuing them from lawful custody), 241 (destruction of evidence), 351(2) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication), 190 (offense by unlawful assembly) and 191(3) (rioting while armed with a deadly weapon) — besides Sections 25 and 27 of Arms Act.Punjab Police have alleged that on Sunday, Majithia along with 50 to 60 supporters forcibly entered Majitha police station, searched various rooms, damaged official records and case files and attempted to secure the release of a detained SAD worker from police custody.Following the incident, police teams have conducted raids at several locations linked to Majithia, including his residences in Amritsar and Chandigarh. However, the senior Akali leader has reportedly remained untraceable. To investigate the matter, the Punjab Police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) and issued a lookout circular (LOC) against Majithia. The Shiromani Akali Dal has strongly rejected the allegations, terming the case politically motivated and fabricated. The party claimed that the detained individual was a polling agent during the recent civic body elections and was allegedly being held at the station house officer’s residential quarters instead of a designated police lock-up.On Tuesday, Majithia’s counsel and SGPC member advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka approached the Amritsar session court, seeking directions to the police to provide a copy of the FIR.“As the police did not provide the FIR copy, citing the unavailability of the investigating officer, judicial magistrate first class Neelam had to issue a formal direction to the cops to provide the same in 24 hours. We hope the police will provide the copy by Thursday morning,” Sialka said, adding, “Once we get the FIR, we will move an anticipatory bail plea either before a local court or the Punjab and Haryana high court.”Majithia’s wife and MLA Ganieve Kaur accused the state government of “misleading” the public through claims of the LOC against her husband. She claimed that Majithia’s passport had already been deposited in a court, and the police and the investigating agencies were fully aware of this fact. “Majithia has neither fled nor intends to flee,” Kaur said in a statement, adding that he is exercising his legal rights and remains engaged with his legal team in pursuing the matter through the courts.
